Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as
well as domestic sales and export figures for August 2010.
Production: total and in Japan
Total global production
for August came in at 89,779 units, 42.7 percent up over August 2009 and
the tenth consecutive monthly increase since November 2009. Production
volume in Japan at 50,038 units was 52.4 percent up year-on-year, the
ninth consecutive monthly year-on-year increase. Passenger car output at
42,952 units was 61.8 percent up on the same period last year.
Commercial vehicle output at 7,086 units was 12.9 percent up
year-on-year.
Sales in Japan
Vehicle
sales in Japan in August totaled 15,475 units, 28.1 percent up on the
same month last year and the tenth consecutive monthly year-on-year rise
since November 2009. Sales of passenger cars at 12,031 units were 29.5
percent up year-on-year and sales of commercial vehicles at 3,444 units
were 23.4 percent up year-on-year. Registered vehicle sales volume at
6,645 units was 47.0 percent up on the same month last year. Minicar
sales volume at 8,830 units was 16.8 percent up year-on-year.
Production overseas
Overseas production volume totaled
39,741 units, 32.0 percent up over August last year and the tenth
consecutive monthly year-on-year increase. By region, output in Asia at
31,310 units was 40.9 percent up year on year, with 96.6 percent and
101.8 percent increases at MMTh in Thailand and KRM in Indonesia
respectively countering decreases in Taiwan and China. In North America,
output at 3,234 units was 32.2 percent up over August last year. In
Europe, output at 1,806 units was 21.8 percent down year-on-year as
sales in the region remained sluggish. In South America output at 3,060
units was 7.4 percent up over the same period last year as sales at MMC
Automotores do Brasil Ltda. continued to recover.
Export shipments from Japan
Total exports from Japan of
38,355 units were 129.4 percent up on August 2009, marking the ninth
consecutive monthly year-on-year rise. Exports to Asia at 4,437 units
were 62.3 percent up year-on-year mainly on the back of a 250.0 percent
increase in shipments to China and helped by a continuing rise in
shipments to Malaysia and Brunei. Exports to North America at 4,759
units were 51.7 percent up over the same period last year as sales rose
in the United States and Canada. Exports to Europe at 15,941 units were
284.8 percent up year-on-year, boosted chiefly by a large increase in
shipments to Russia.
